Newest additions complete football team’s coaching staff before the beginning of 2010 inaugural seas
The Georgia State football program welcomed two new faces to its staff as head coach Bill Curry hired Craig Harmon as tight ends coach and Sarah Gigantino as director of football operations. The addition of Harmon and Gigantino completes the coaching staff, which is preparing for the team’s inaugural game this September.
The Georgia State Baseball team (0-3) opened their season this weekend dropping three straight games to the #5 ranked team in the nation, the Florida State Seminoles. The Panthers opener took place Friday down in Florida on Mike Martin Field. Georgia State started the game off well, but several mistakes made it easier for the Seminoles to cruise to an 11-3 win.
Loris Hutterli continues his strong start this year, with a second place finish in the Men’s 3,000-meter run at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia Friday. The red-shirt senior, a native of Switzerland and former Junior Swiss National Champion in track and cross country, also won first place in the 3,000-meter run at the Clemson Games with a time of 8:39.
Trey Hampton led the way with 14 points as Georgia State Men’s basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to defeat South Carolina State, 67-52, in the ESPN Bracketbusters Saturday at the Georgia State Sports Arena. Meanwhile last Tuesday, the Panthers edged conference rival James Madison, 77-72, as Joe Dukes put on a show with a 25-point performance.
The Georgia State women’s golf team, following one tournament, is optimistic about the season as they work to defend their CAA Championship title. The team has already competed in one tournament, the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, where they took first of 17 teams on both the first and second day.
