Haiti is still recovering from the earthquake with the help of donations.

Almost a month after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the Georgia State community is still actively participating in the relief effort.

The Commons Hall Council D is contributing to the relief effort by hosting a Haiti Charity Dinner on Feb. 10 in the Commons Meeting Room starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. All Commons residents, faculty, staff, and students are welcome.

Attendees will enjoy a full course Italian meal with live entertainment with a mix of romantically themed music to go along with the benefit dinner’s Valentine’s Day theme. All proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity.

Along with Haiti Charity Dinner, the Hall Council D members are selling candy grams that will be delivered on Valentine’s Day and paw prints for the Building D elevator lobby bulletin board.

“Haiti has always been an impoverished country and after the earthquake and intense after-shocks we decided that this would be a really good time to help,” said Macy Lister, Hall Council D President.

The Hall Council chose Habitat for Humanity as the money recipient to aid in the reconstruction of Haiti. “In order to avoid going back to the conditions of the country before the quake, they need something that will ensure sustainability for the future and Habitat for Humanity is doing this,” said Lister.
