GSU Panther Prowl

Students participate in Panther Prowl this past August.

As Georgia State’s last spring homecoming activities have wrapped up, there are still plenty of events occurring for student involvement, thanks in large part to the Spotlight Programs Board.

The Spotlight Programs Board is the official programming board for Georgia State, and is part of the Division of Student Affairs. Spotlight coordinates activities that enhance and enrich the quality of student life by addressing the needs and interests of its diverse student body.  Spotlight takes part in putting on events during Homecoming and throughout the semester.

This upcoming Friday, Feb. 26, there is the Love and Magic Panther Prowl that will begin at 7 p.m. The Love and Magic Panther Prowl will include a magician, hypnosis, Build- A- Bear, a photo booth, food, speed dating and a dance that will take place at midnight.

“Every Panther Prowl has different activities for students, there is fun stuff,” Co-Director of Panther Prowl Nick Alexander said. “Some previous panther prowls were panther of the Caribbean which included a steel drums band, giving away gold fishes and a night full of fun, social, food and activities. They occur once a month on a Friday.”

The last two Panther Prowls of the semester will be on March 26 and April 23; themes and times will be announced closer to the dates.

Wednesday, March 3, F.A.M.E (Food, Arts, Music and Entertainment) event will occur that is put on by the Spotlight Programs. This event will feature Rhythm City, from MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, as well as Georgia State students Fenton Thompson and Chanell Collins’ art work. Rob Blackledge will also perform and there will be food. This is the first time an event like this has been sponsored by Spotlight Programs.

Murder Mystery will be coming back to Georgia State Wednesday, March 31. Murder Mystery is a dinner theater where students will enjoy a nice dinner and night full of fun mysteries. Tuesday, April 6, will be Words Strings and Funny things.

“There will be a comedian, violinists, spoken words,” said Krystle Scarbough, the public relations director. “It is going to be fun, make sure to come out!”

Spring Fling will occur from April 13-15 where different activities will be held around campus and there will be various activities. The last activity that will wrap up the spring semester will be Georgia State Night at Six Flags. This event will occur Friday, April 30, so be on the lookout in the near future for information on getting tickets.

If anybody is interested in becoming a committee director with the Spotlight Programs Board; applications are now available either in the Spotlight office in the Student Center, Room 380, or online at www.gsu.edu/spotlight. Applications are due Friday, March 5 by 5 p.m.

“Spotlight Programs Board has an open door where anybody can volunteer,” said Alexander and Scarbough.
